River, savanna and volcanic terrain add a different chapter to an Afar journey.
Awash National Park spans Afar and Oromia. The Awash River, acacia woodland and open volcanic plains offer a contrast to the salt and geothermal landscapes of the Danakil.
Oryx, gazelles, kudu and baboons are among the park’s wildlife. Observation depends on local conditions and the animals themselves. Keep a respectful distance and follow park guidance.
This guide introduces a possible extension rather than adding a park stop to every Danakil package. Discuss the extra travel time, accommodation and transport before combining the two areas.
